Woodstock owner's do seem to love their stoves. I felt the same way when doing my research. I can see why you say that the comments all point to the Woodstock stoves. Initially the front door did not pass the dollar bill test, but I adjusted the handle and now it has some degree of resistance to it that I find acceptable. So far I have no complaints about my stove. I know I wouldn't be happy with the lower temperature as I like to run them hot. I didn't realize that the maximum recommended temp for a Phoenix was only 375 while it is 475 for the Heritage. In hindsight, I'm glad I ended up with the Heritage. Due to the Phoenix models being on severe backorder due to demand, they gave me a Heritage instead. I was supposed to get the Phoenix, but it had some dings in it upon delivery, so I had them bring it back. Woodstock only makes stoves with catalytic converters, though, and many people seem very satisfied with the burn times on their Hearthstones.Īny thoughts from you folks? Experience with both brands? Advice? All would be appreciated. I first thought that I didn't want or need a catalytic converter, but then when I read reviews on, there were only positive things about Woodstock, but a handful of negatives about Hearthstone, including comments about shorter burn time than expected and cracked/warped castings. So I can't figure out whether a hearthstone or woodstock is the best choice. We are looking at soapstone because we want to be able to heat the whole house without being driven out of the living room, which is rather small. It now has just electric baseboard heat, but we are planning on putting in a soapstone woodstove to heat the whole house. Not a very open floor plan, but we will be taking down part of the wall between the living room and kitchen. We are buying a 1200 sf story and a half cape-cod style house. Hi all! I've searched the archives and haven't found an answer, so I thought I'd post.
